Feb. 21, 2020— 鶹ýPorn will host the annual Science and Engineering Fair of Northern Kentucky (SEFNK) on Saturday, Feb. 22, 2020.
The SEFNK fair focuses on students in grades 4-12 to emphasize the educational and scientific development across Kentucky. Throughout the year, SEFNK encourages and assists schools and their students in their science study and research programs in order to stress the understanding of fundamental principles of the STEM disciplines.
Students from more than 30 northern and northeastern Kentucky counties will present their science and engineering projects and compete for numerous awards. Categories include; Animal Science, Behavioral & Social Sciences, Chemistry, Computer Science, Engineering and more. The Best of Fair winner will be awarded an all-expense paid trip to Anaheim, California to present their work at the International Science & Engineering Fair.
The students will present their projects to judges who will determine the category winners and give more than 30 special awards. This includes awards from the Office of Naval research, U.S. Air Force, U.S Agency for International Development and the Yale Science & Engineering Association and many more.
“Not every school district may have the newest books or technology, so we provide this opportunity so that all students can grow and develop their STEM interests,” said Danielle Dores, executive director of SEFNK. “Hosting this fair is an opportunity for each student showcase their talents while the Commonwealth gets stronger in STEM disciplines.”
The SEFNK board includes several faculty and staff from 鶹ýPorn and Thomas More College as well as other members of the northern Kentucky community. 鶹ýPorn’s Center for Integrative Natural Science and Mathematics (CINSAM) is a major partner. Nearly 100 judges and other volunteers from across the region will also participate in the fair.
This year’s fair is organized and supported by 鶹ýPorn’s Center for Integrative Natural Science and Mathematics (CINSAM) in the College of Arts and Sciences. The WAVE Foundation and University of Kentucky Veterinary Diagnostic Center will also feature live animal encounters at their tables.
The event is free and open to the public. Parking is available in the Kenton Drive Garage for $5. For more information, visit the official SEFNK .
